Jaimini Patel
Residency at Theertha International Artists Collective
Using materials from my everyday I make slight interventions to reveal a particular moment. By following my curiosity about how things happen and what they do, I want to find that which jogs our visual memory. When the function of a material or where it belongs is transformed, the dissonance between its past and present becomes amplified. I am aware that the decisions I make are not entirely mine - I do something and the material does something back. I probe to ascertain the nature of its memory. I want to find this moment when a line appears where there was not one before, when a thing is neither one thing nor another or a place stops being one place and starts being somewhere else. What we see can deceive us - that which eludes a name or a place creates an uncertainty about what it is that we are looking at and what we understand.
