Lionel T Dean
Residency at National Institute of Design (NID)
Lionel is an artist/designer working with direct digital manufacturing, the ‘printing’ of 3D artefacts direct from virtual on-screen models. In 2002 as Artist in Residence at the University of Huddersfield, Lionel began working on FutureFactories, http://FutureFactories.com , a concept for designs that evolve and mutate to create a potentially infinite stream of one-off solutions.
The project is proving a great success and concepts behind it,
Forms that evolve and mutate
Growth structures
3d artefacts generated directly from on-screen models
have become principals that define his work.
FutureFactories has been exhibited in London, Milan, and New York. One of the pieces from the collection, Tuber9, was acquired in 2005 by MoMA, The Museum for Modern Art in New York, for its permanent design collection.
