Earth Moves
Exhibited 2004 - These large and small scale wall mounted pieces refer to the fundamental shifting of the earth’s crust and, in particular, personal experience of earthquake and volcanic activity in North West America over recent years. Chatwin : Martin’s Earth Moves pieces are constructed in layers, from wood veneer, and intensely saturated with colour. The surface is then ground away to expose the colourful inner layers of the veneers and revealing what appear to be random fractures and ragged edges.
